VOLVO RYA CHAMPION CLUB

Neyland Yacht Club were granted RYA Volvo Champion Club status on Sunday 2nd July 2006 at the Welsh Schools Championship by Ms Llinos Lloyd of Lloyds Motors, Aberaeron suppliers of Volvo Cars.

Volvo Award

To be granted this prestigious award Clubs have to prove that they are continuously encouraging young people into the sport of sailing and in particular to racing.  They also have to develop, encourage and support their (and their parents!!) enthusiasm to try and gain entry into the West Wales regional squads and hopefully into the Welsh squads and even further (maybe future Olympic sailors?).

Neyland Yacht Club has achieved this through an ever-increasing band of dedicated people.  This not only includes the instructors but all the shore and admin work that is carried out by the parents and helpers which is needed to carry out all the training safely and effectively.

The Club will benefit from this award in several ways including:

  • Two days free coaching by an RYA Class Coach per year,
  • Free copies of the Volvo RYA Youth Sailing Newsletter,
  • A Volvo RYA Junior Club CD Manual,
  • Access to RYA Seminars and Coaching Conferences,
  • Commemorative club plaque, flag and official branding rights.

Neyland Yacht Club is proud to be the first Club in West Wales to be granted the Volvo RYA Champion Club award.

NEW CLUB PATIO OPEN

West side of NYC

The Club patio has now been finished with the addition of three pine table/chair sets.  The patio has been designed and constructed by several Club members led by John Evans.  The main bulk of the work was carried out in the early part of this year (2006) when the weather was freezing cold.  However with numerous tea breaks to warm up, the patio soon started to take shape.

Sea view from patio

Much thought went into the design of the patio even down to various members sitting on chairs to arrive at the right height of the guard rails so as to not block the view.  The clear glass infils not only offer an excellent view of the River Cleddau and the racing, but also keep the worst of the wind at bay.

The Three pine wood patio sets were donated by the Junior Sailors, Domenico Todaro and an anonymous member.
